Sometimes...

Sometimes things just come together the way that it was just supposed to be, because you never could have dreamed them up that way on your own.

Like when I read Megan McCafferty's Jessica Darling series several years ago and fell so hardcore in love with Jessica Notso Darling and Marcus Flutie and every word on every page McCafferty wrote. I raved about the books to everyone I met, and begged them to read them. Some people read the books, but I never felt like anyone truly *got* them and loved them like I did. And you know when you really, really love a book, you want someone to appreciate it just as much as you do.

Then, I ran into Liz Reinhardt in my writing circle and I decided to check up on her books, because that's what friends do, right? And I bought the Brenna Blixen series and immediately emailed her and said, "I haven't loved a series this much since the Jessica Darling books," and she replied something like, "YOU LIKE Jessica, TOO?!?!" And I was so happy to finally find someone that knew all about Chaos Called Creation and You. Yes. You.

Liz and I became friends and supporters of each other's work and randomly one weekend I downloaded her novel, FORGIVING TRINITY and she happened to download mine, GROUNDING QUINN and we read them at the same time! A few pages in, I emailed her and said, "Oh my dad, I think Quinn and Trinity were separated at birth!" And she replied that she thought the same thing, and then she said, "WE SHOULD TOTALLY WRITE A BOOK TOGETHER SOMEDAY!"

That someday turned into the next morning.

 I emailed Liz a picture of a little beach shack that said something about hippies, and she ran with it. I had the first chapter of LENGTHS in my inbox when I woke up.

Writing with Liz was like hanging out with someone who totally gets you. And Whit and Deo came to life for us.

And LENGTHS was written, and we so hope you love it as much as we loved working together...
